Topic: Food Processing for Small Producers -

June Policy Committee Meeting

Tom Pellizzetti will be presenting observations and shared learnings about "Food Processing for Small Producers: Local and Regional Niche Meat Systems, Selling Channels, and Consumer Trends Driving Transformation."

The purpose of the talk is to define and provide examples of companies, organizations and people leading change in local/regional meats. A Q&A session and follow-up conversation encouraged.

Tom grew up in the upper Florida Keys, for the most part. He graduated from UF with a BS in Animal Science in 1996 and earned and MBA from Thunderbird in Arizona in 2001. Tom had a 12 year corporate career in operations, sales and consumer marketing working for three large food companies. He formed an independent agency called Pelagic Marketing Partners LLC in 2009. This led to co-founding a small grass fed beef producer called Arrowhead Beef in 2010 and co-owning a very small USDA inspected harvest facility in North West Florida. Tom leases the Arrowhead brand to his former partners and sold back his share of the processing plant in 2015. Today, Tom provides brokerage services for small-farm meat companies and specialty food companies. Tom’s passion is to connect people and business that help transform local/regional food systems.
